Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing bust of Grand Duke Leopold I of Baden occupying the central field, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail typical of mid-19th century German die-engraving. The effigy presents the subject in civilian attire with a plain truncation at the shoulder. The circular legend LEOPOLD GROSHERZOG VON BADEN runs along the inner border, separated from the rim by a continuous beaded border. The coin's gold surfaces display a brilliant, prooflike finish consistent with a presentation or pattern striking.
