Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg — combining the lion of Salzburg with the crossed keys of the Holy See — surmounted by a princely hat and flanked by ecclesiastical ornaments. The escutcheon is rendered in fine relief typical of late 17th-century Habsburg ecclesiastical coinage. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the shield, reading the abbreviated name and title of Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun. The date appears integrated within the legend. The overall design is characteristic of the small-denomination hammered and milled coinage of the Salzburg mint.
