Obverse description Central field features the Württemberg arms displayed on a shield, depicting a rampant stag or lion passant in relief, characteristic of the comital heraldic tradition of Montbéliard. The shield is rendered in a late Renaissance style typical of hammered small silver coinage of the period. A partial Latin legend encircles the shield reading FRIDE. D. G. CO. WVRT, abbreviated for Frederick, by the grace of God, Count of Württemberg. The coin exhibits an irregular flan edge consistent with hammered production of the late sixteenth century. The overall strike is moderately defined with some weakness in the outer legend areas.
