Additional information

Würzburg's elevation to a Grand Duchy was Napoleon's doing — he awarded it to his brother-in-law Ferdinand III of Tuscany in 1806 as compensation for Tuscan territories absorbed into the French empire. The arrangement lasted barely eight years before the Congress of Vienna returned Ferdinand to Florence and dissolved the Grand Duchy entirely in 1814.

KM#469 is among the smaller silver issues produced under this transitional authority, struck at a moment when Napoleonic reorganization of German coinage standards was still unsettled.
