Additional information

Christian Frederick Charles Alexander — the last Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth — ceded his territories to Prussia in 1791, just a few years after this piece was struck. The cession was essentially a financial rescue; the margravate was deeply indebted and the Margrave himself preferred life at the Prussian court to the burden of governance. These small billon kreuzers were among the final independent coinage issues before Bayreuth was absorbed into the Hohenzollern bloc.
