| Obverse description | Central field displays the Montfort arms — a crenellated tower — set within an ornate cartouche or oval shield, flanked by decorative foliate scrollwork. A comital crown surmounts the shield above. The circular Latin legend reads ANT:COM:IN:MONTFO, identifying Anthony as Count of Montfort, and runs along the coin's periphery in Roman letters. The overall design is characteristic of small hammered billon coinage of the early eighteenth-century German-speaking lands, with the die work showing bold if somewhat crude relief. |
