Obverse description The arms of the Bishopric of Bamberg depicted as a rampant lion passant on a diagonally divided shield, the lion facing dexter with tail curled upward. The heraldic lion is rendered in fine relief with crosshatched body detailing characteristic of 18th-century German coinage. The shield occupies the central field and is surrounded by a plain inner border. The coin edge features a reeded or grained border visible around the periphery.
