Hieronymus von Colloredo, who ruled Salzburg from 1772 until Napoleon dissolved the archbishopric in 1803, was among the most committed Josephinist prelates in the Habsburg sphere — implementing liturgical reforms so aggressively that popular resentment ran high throughout his tenure. His administration of the small copper denominations was equally rationalist, reflecting a broader drive to standardize coinage across ecclesiastical territories in step with Viennese monetary policy. Mozart, who served under Colloredo as court organist, famously despised him.
