Reverse description The reverse, printed in dark brown on cream paper, is enclosed within a plain rectangular border and dominated by a large central text block in Hungarian script. Along the lower margin, a decorative vignette depicts a jester's or clown's masked face at left and a film reel at right, connected by a flowing ribbon, evoking the cinema theme of the issuing establishment. A manuscript signature appears below the main text block.

Comments

This is a Hungarian cinema token note — a "szükségpénz" (emergency/necessity money) issued by the Uránia Moving Picture Theatre in Szombathely. During the severe coin shortage that gripped Hungary in the immediate post-WWI years, small businesses and institutions across the country printed their own fractional substitutes. Cinemas were among the more unusual issuers, using these slips to make change at the box office when state coinage was simply unavailable.

The Adamo MSZK catalogue documents dozens of such local Hungarian emergency issues from 1919–1921, and Szombathely — a provincial western Hungarian city near the Austrian border — produced several distinct series. This particular Uránia piece is catalogued as SZO-7.4, indicating it belongs to a numbered variant within a local sub-series, suggesting multiple printings or denomination types from the same issuer.
