Comments

Beregszász was among dozens of Hungarian municipalities that printed their own emergency currency in 1919 when the postwar collapse of central authority — and with it, the regular coin and banknote supply — left local economies functionally paralyzed. These városi szükségpénz issues were produced by whoever had a press and paper to hand; Balogh-nyomda was a local job printer, not a security printer, and the results were correspondingly modest.

The Adamo catalogue distinguishes at least one subtype under BER-1.1, suggesting minor variation in printing or paper stock. Signed by Hunyady Gyula as municipal treasurer.
