Additional information

Ukraine's post-Soviet coinage program was delayed significantly by the country's slow transition away from the Russian ruble. The kopiika denominations were struck beginning in 1992 but deliberately withheld from circulation until September 1996, when the hryvnia was finally introduced as a stable national currency following years of catastrophic inflation that had rendered the interim karbovanets essentially worthless.

The 1992-dated pieces thus sat in storage for four years before ever changing hands.
