The legend reads 'Khalifat al-Mu'minin' (Ruler of the Faithful), a classical Islamic honorific affirming the sultan's religious and temporal authority. The lettering is bold but somewhat irregular in execution, characteristic of cast tin coinage from the Johor Sultanate. The field shows typical casting porosity and a patinated surface.
