Obverse description Depiction of a stylized elephant in profile facing right, rendered in the bold, archaic relief characteristic of Vijayanagara hammered copper coinage. The animal's body is shown with rounded, globular forms, the trunk curling upward, and the legs indicated by broad raised strokes. A row of large globules arcs along the upper rim of the field, serving as a decorative border element. The overall execution is typical of the vigorous but schematic die-cutting style of early sixteenth-century South Indian mint workers.
