Prakashe, identified with the ancient settlement on the Tapti River in present-day Maharashtra, issued copper karshapanas during a period when the Mauryan imperial system was fracturing and regional punch-marked coinage authorities were proliferating across the Deccan. The city's issues are distinguished from imperial types primarily by their punchmark combinations, which remain incompletely catalogued.
