Obverse description Crowned figure of King Leo III seated facing on throne, holding a sceptre in the right hand and an orb or globus cruciger in the left hand, rendered in the flat, stylized Armenian hammered tradition. The royal figure is depicted with outstretched arms resting on the throne's armrests, wearing a crown and royal robes. The central design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The Armenian legend ԼԵՒՈՆ ԹԱԳԱՒՈՐ ՀԱՅՈՑ, meaning 'Leon, King of the Armenians,' runs along the periphery of the coin within the outer border.

Reverse description A bold Maltese-style cross with splayed, floriated arms occupies the central field, set within a square or lozenge frame, a design element characteristic of Cilician Armenian coinage of the late 13th and early 14th centuries. The cross is rendered in low relief with each arm terminating in a fleur-de-lis or foliate motif. The central field is enclosed within a beaded circle. The Armenian inscription + ՇԻՆԵԱԼ Ի ՔԱՂԱՔՆ ՍԻՍ, meaning 'Struck in the city of Sis,' appears in the outer legend, identifying the mint of issue.
