Additional information

The Kangra Kingdom occupied a strategically critical position in the northwestern Himalayan foothills, and its coinage from this period reflects the mounting pressure of Ghurid expansion into the subcontinent following the battles of Tarain in 1191 and 1192. Triloka Chandra Deva's jitals belong to a billon tradition heavily influenced by the debased coinage already flooding the region from Ghaznavid and Ghurid mints — the silver content in these issues varies considerably even within the same type, suggesting intermittent access to bullion rather than systematic debasement policy.
