| Obverse description | Entirely epigraphic design with multi-line Arabic legend in bold Naskh script occupying the full field of this irregularly-shaped hammered billon jital. The legend reads al-Sultan al-Ghazi Ghiyath al-Dunya wal-Din, conferring upon Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq I his principal royal and religious titles. The script is rendered in a characteristically vigorous style typical of early Tughluq-era Delhi Sultanate coinage, with letterforms boldly raised in relief against a flat, unadorned field. No border ornament or decorative framing device is present, in keeping with the austere epigraphic tradition of the period. |
