Obverse description Entirely epigraphic design with multi-line Arabic legend in bold Naskh script occupying the full field of this irregularly-shaped hammered billon jital. The legend reads al-Sultan al-Ghazi Ghiyath al-Dunya wal-Din, conferring upon Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq I his principal royal and religious titles. The script is rendered in a characteristically vigorous style typical of early Tughluq-era Delhi Sultanate coinage, with letterforms boldly raised in relief against a flat, unadorned field. No border ornament or decorative framing device is present, in keeping with the austere epigraphic tradition of the period.
Obverse script Arabic
Obverse lettering ٧٢٣
السلطان الغازي
غياث الدنيا والدين
(Translation: al sultan-ul-ghazi ghiyath-ud-dunya wal deen)
