Obverse description Central field displays a large crowned royal cipher 'F' for Frederik II, flanked by the last two digits of the regnal year (e.g. '8' and '3' for 1583), all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding peripheral legend reads DANIE · NORWEGIE · REX, denoting the king's title as ruler of Denmark and Norway, separated by pellet stops. The crown surmounting the cipher is rendered in a late Renaissance style typical of Danish hammered coinage of the period. The entire design is contained within a plain outer rim characteristic of small billon issues of the era.
