Obverse description The Augsburg pine cone (Zirbelnuss), the civic symbol of the city, displayed upright on a pedestal within a beaded or leafy wreath encircling the entire field. The date is divided by the pine cone, with the first two numerals to the left and the last two to the right of the device, as visible on the illustrated 1609 example. The overall composition is centered and symmetrical, rendered in the hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century German municipal coinage.
