Obverse description An open right hand displayed palm-outward, centered within a linear circle, serving as the civic emblem of Frankfurt. The hand is rendered in the flat, stylized manner typical of medieval hammered coinage. A partial circular legend reading +FRANCOF(VRTI) surrounds the central device, identifying the issuing city. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-struck production of the early sixteenth century.
