Obverse description Central field dominated by an ornate interlaced royal cipher combining the letters F and R (Fredericus Rex), rendered in elaborate script with decorative foliate scrollwork at the terminals. The cipher is surmounted by a large royal crown with arched bands and jewelled circlet. A small six-pointed star ornament appears below the cipher in the lower field. The entire design is contained within a toothed or beaded border running along the coin's rim.
