Additional information

Isny im Allgäu held the status of a Free Imperial City, granting it the right to strike its own coinage — a privilege jealously exercised by dozens of small Swabian municipalities in the early sixteenth century. At 0.21 g, the heller denomination was the lowest practical unit in everyday commerce, changing hands constantly for bread, firewood, and market tolls before wearing to illegibility within years of issue.
