Obverse description Right-facing bust of a young Maximilian I, laureate with a wreath of olive or bay leaves, his long flowing hair falling over his armoured shoulders, depicted at age 19 as indicated by the date 1479 in the field. The portrait is rendered in a late Gothic artistic style with fine engraved detail to the armour at the truncation. The surrounding legend, separated from the central effigy by a beaded inner border, reads MAXIMILIAN MAGNANIM ARCHIDVX AVSTRIE BVRGVND with ETATIS 19 and the year 1479 distributed in the field to either side of the bust.
