Obverse description Central field depicts the enthroned figure of Saint Rupert, patron saint of Salzburg, facing forward in pontifical vestments and wearing a mitre, holding a crozier in his left hand and a book or salt container in his right. Beneath the saint, a large quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg is displayed, incorporating the episcopal arms alongside those of Archbishop Johann Jakob Khuen von Belasi. The date appears divided to either side of the saint's figure within the field. A Latin legend in Gothic script encircles the design within a beaded border, reading the abbreviated titles of the Archbishop.
