| Reverse description | The reverse features a boldly rendered standing lion passant-rampant to the left, representing the Bohemian royal lion, occupying the majority of the coin's field in high relief. The lion is depicted with a curling tail raised over its back and an open mouth, consistent with the Bohemian heraldic tradition. A continuous circular Latin legend surrounds the design, recording the name and title of King Louis I (Ludwig) of Bohemia by the grace of God. The legend reads LVDOVICVS PRIMVS DEI GRATIA REX BOEMIE. The flat, irregular field and the strong, somewhat crude strike are characteristic of early hammered Joachimsthal thalers. |
