Obverse description Central field bears the crowned arms of the Dutch Republic — a shield charged with a rampant lion holding a sword and bundle of arrows — flanked by the denomination numeral '1' to the left and the letter 'G' (Gulden) to the right. Below the shield appears the interlinked VOC monogram of the Dutch East India Company. The surrounding legend reads MO : ARG : ORD : FŒ : BELG : TRAI, identifying this as silver coinage of the Federated States of the Netherlands, Utrecht. The crown above the shield is of the Dutch provincial type, rendered in fine relief.
