| Obverse description | Central field depicts a rampant lion facing left, holding a sword or staff, surmounted by a crown, with the date 1574 flanking the figure on either side. The design is rendered in low relief consistent with the cardboard substrate. A dotted inner border frames the central device, with the circular Latin legend HÆC LIBERTATIS ERGO arranged around the periphery. The overall style is characteristic of emergency siege coinage, with bold but somewhat roughly executed devices. Small ornamental stops separate the legend elements along the outer border. |
