| Obverse description | Full-length facing figure of King Christian IV standing in armour, wearing a crown, holding a sceptre in his right hand and an orb in his left hand. The king is depicted in a formal regal pose within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend reads CHRIS IIII D G DA NOV VA GO REX EL, identifying him as the elected King of Denmark, Norway, of the Wends and the Goths. The overall style is characteristic of late sixteenth-century Northern European hammered gold coinage. |
