| Reverse description | Central device consists of an orb or globus cruciger rendered within an ornate, cusped or trefoil-shaped frame, evoking Imperial symbolism. The orb is surmounted by a cross and encircled by a decorative inner border. The surrounding Latin legend reads: KAROLVS ROMANO IMPERATOR, proclaiming Charles as Emperor of the Romans, with cross and star separators. The field is flat and the lettering is bold and deeply struck, consistent with hammered gold coinage of the early sixteenth century. A beaded border frames the entire reverse design. |
