Obverse description An oval intaglio vignette at left carries a portrait of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, with the territorial name NIEUW-GUINEA and denomination EEN GULDEN rendered in bold letterpress at centre, flanked by ornate guilloche rosettes. The serial number appears twice — above the portrait and at lower right. The green lower border bears the legends WETTIG BETAALMIDDEL and the date 2 JANUARI 1950.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large symmetrical guilloche composition in green, with a central elongated oval flanked by paired leaf-shaped lathe-work panels and circular rosettes, all executed in fine intaglio engraving. The numeral 1 appears at both the left and right margins within the guilloche framework. A text panel along the lower border carries the inscription UITGEGEVEN KRACHTENS HET BESLUIT GELDREGELING NIEUW-GUINEA in small letterpress.
