| Obverse description | The central vignette is a large intaglio-printed reproduction of the Dutch East Indies silver 1 Gulden coin dated 1937, bearing the Netherlands royal arms with crowned lion and the legend KONINGRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN. Flanking the coin vignette are two guilloche rosettes enclosing the green numeral 1, set against a red-orange fine-line underprint that covers the entire face. The left stub carries a decorative panel with a stylised floral and leaf vignette in green and brown, while the date BATAVIA 15 JUNI 1940 and two manuscript signature lines appear below the coin, attributed to the President en Directeuren van de Javasche Bank and the Directeur van Financiën respectively. |

| Reverse description | The central design is a large rectangular vignette in dark brown engraving showing a view within the Borobudur temple complex on Java, with a seated Buddha statue visible beneath a decorative stone arch and stupas rising in the background. The vignette is framed by horizontal bands of fine guilloche ornament running across the full width of the note, with oval guilloche numerals 1 at each upper corner. Below the vignette a text panel carries the anti-counterfeiting warning, and the Dutch royal arms appear in guilloche cartouches at lower left and lower right. |
