Obverse description Laureate and draped right-facing bust of King William III occupying the central field, rendered in high relief in the second bust type introduced in 1697. The king is depicted with a long flowing wig of tight curls characteristic of the late Stuart period. The peripheral legend reads GVLIELMVS III DEI GRA, separated by pellet stops, running clockwise around the effigy. The coin's milled edge is visible at the rim. The engraving, attributed to John Croker, displays a bold and authoritative portrait style.
