Obverse description Laureate and draped right-facing bust of George I occupies the obverse field, rendered in high relief with elaborate curled hair flowing to the shoulder. The portrait, engraved by John Croker, displays fine naturalistic detail characteristic of early eighteenth-century British medallic art. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading GEORGIVS DG M BR FR ET HIB REX F D, proclaiming the king's full royal and religious titles. The coin's milled edge is visible at the periphery, and the field surrounding the bust is smooth and largely unadorned.
