Obverse description Central crowned Gothic 'M' monogram, the crown rendered with fleurs-de-lis and arched bands in a stylized late-medieval manner. The monogram occupies the full field, with the crown's base resting upon the letter's upper serifs. A circular legend in Latin uncial script runs along the inner border, separated from the field by a beaded or linear inner rim. The overall design is characteristic of the struck billon coinage produced under the joint rule of Maximilian I and Philip the Handsome in the Low Countries.
