| Obverse description | The papal coat of arms of Pius VI occupies the central field, featuring the Braschi family shield quartered with heraldic charges including stars and a diagonal band, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is set within an ornate baroque cartouche with foliate mantling. The circular Latin legend reads PIVS SIXTVS PON·M·A·IV, identifying the pontiff as Pius VI, Supreme Pontiff, in the fourth year of his reign. The entire design is rendered in the high-relief baroque style characteristic of late eighteenth-century Roman papal coinage. |
