| Reverse description | The reverse presents a four-line Latin inscription — DATE / ET / DABI: / TVR — drawn from Luke 6:38 ('Give, and it shall be given unto you'), set within an elaborate foliate and acanthus-scroll cartouche of baroque design. The cartouche is surmounted by a decorative fleur-de-lis finial and terminates at the base in a shell or foliate motif. The lettering is rendered in bold serifed Roman capitals, occupying the full field of the cartouche. No exergual inscription or additional devices are present. The composition is enclosed by the characteristic reeded or milled edge collar of the Rome mint. |
