Obverse description Central field bears the papal coat of arms of Clement XI (Giovanni Francesco Albani), displaying a shield charged with a triple-towered castle, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, the whole enclosed within an elaborate baroque mantle or heraldic mantling. The circular legend surrounding the arms reads the pontifical title and regnal year, separated by pellet stops. The coin's border is defined by a continuous beaded or milled inner rim, characteristic of early eighteenth-century Roman mint production.
