Obverse description Central field dominated by the Visconti biscione, depicted as a large coiled serpent (biscia) devouring a human figure, rendered in bold relief characteristic of late medieval Milanese hammered coinage. The serpent's scaled body is rendered in detail, curling upon itself to fill the flan. A circular legend surrounds the device, interrupted by the coin's irregular flan edges. The design is executed in the Gothic heraldic style typical of Visconti dynastic coinage of the fourteenth century.
