Obverse description The Visconti heraldic device — the biscione, a coiled serpent devouring a child — occupies the central field, flanked by the initials B and G (for Bernabò and Galeazzo), all set within a quatrefoil frame adorned with stars or rosettes in each spandrel. The design is executed in the Gothic decorative tradition characteristic of mid-14th-century Milanese coinage. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding Latin legend. The composition is crisp and heraldically precise, reflecting the dynastic ambitions of the joint Visconti lords.
