| Additional information |
Peter II of Moldavia ruled during the formative decades of the principality's independence, when Moldavian coinage was still finding its identity as a distinct monetary tradition separate from its neighbors. The groschen denomination itself was borrowed from the Bohemian tradition — the Prague groschen had dominated Central and Eastern European trade for much of the 14th century, and Moldavian rulers adopted the format and weight standard to ensure their coins could function in regional commerce.
MBR#1 designation places this as the foundational type in Moldavian numismatic classification. The seven-flower coat of arms variant is specifically distinguished from later issues where that element was modified or dropped entirely.
