Obverse description Triangular klippe flan with elaborately engraved foliate and floral scrollwork filling all three corners. At centre, a circular beaded border encloses the imperial eagle of Nuremberg displayed on an oval shield, with the date 15-52 divided across the lower field to either side of the shield. The circular legend MONETA. REIPV(B). NORNBEREN(S). runs between the beaded border and an outer dotted circle, rendered in upright Roman capitals. The overall composition reflects the refined craftsmanship of the Nuremberg mint in the mid-sixteenth century.
