Obverse description The entire obverse field is occupied by a multi-line Latin funerary inscription arranged in seven horizontal lines within a plain border. The legend commemorates Electress Magdalena Sibylla of Saxony, recording her origin from the Margraviate of Brandenburg, her birth year of 1612, and the date of her death on 20 March 1687. Small cross ornaments appear at the top and bottom of the inscription, serving as decorative stops. The lettering is executed in a bold, upright serif style characteristic of late seventeenth-century Saxon commemorative coinage. There is no portrait or figurative device; the inscription itself constitutes the entire design of the obverse.
