| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the city arms of Brunswick displayed on a shield — depicting a rampant lion facing left — occupies the central field. The surrounding legend reads MON. NOV. ARG. REIP. BRVN., identifying the coin as a new silver coin of the republic of Brunswick. The shield is rendered in the characteristic flat, engraved style of mid-sixteenth-century German municipal coinage. |
