| Obverse description | Central field displays the rampant lion of Brunswick set within a circular beaded inner border, the beast depicted facing left with raised forepaw and detailed mane. A small crowned shield or decorative element appears above the lion's head. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads MON. NOV. ARG. REIP. BRVNSVI., identifying this as a new silver coin of the Republic of Brunswick. The design is executed in the characteristic loose, slightly irregular style of mid-sixteenth-century German hammered coinage. |
