Obverse description Two adjacent crowned shields displaying the arms of ducal Saxony (barry of ten or and sable with a crancelin vert) and Meissen (or, a lion rampant sable), surmounted by an imperial orb which divides the date within the legend. The surrounding Latin legend bears the titles of Elector Christian I. The overall composition is framed by elaborate foliate and scroll mantling typical of late Renaissance German heraldic coinage.

Reverse description A large, centrally positioned helmeted achievement of the electoral Saxony arms, featuring a crowned helm with elaborate crest and foliate mantling, surrounded by a circular Latin legend continuing the electoral titles of Christian I. The heraldic rendering is characteristic of late sixteenth-century Saxon groschen coinage, with bold relief and detailed foliate ornamentation filling the field. The legend runs clockwise along the outer border of the coin.
