Obverse description A rampant lion facing right occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Heart-shaped ornaments are scattered throughout the field surrounding the lion, a characteristic heraldic device of the Brunswick-Lüneburg dynasty. The circumscription, rendered in Latin, reads CRISTI.D.G.E.EMD.BR.ET.L., referencing Duke Christian of Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle by grace of God. The coin is struck by the hammered method on a irregular flan with a naturally lobate edge.
