Obverse description Central shield bearing a vertically placed mace and spade arranged parallel to one another. The letter 'I' appears in the right field and the letter 'N' above the shield. The surrounding legend is rendered in uncial Latin characters. The overall design is characteristic of the hammered coinage of medieval Moldavia, with an irregularly shaped flan typical of the period.
