Obverse description Central device depicts the fortified city gate of Magdeburg, rendered as a turreted gateway with an open portcullis flanked by two towers, each surmounted by onion-shaped domes or finials. The architectural motif is shown in relief with fine hatching conveying the masonry. A circular legend surrounds the central design, running along the coin's periphery. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hammered silver coinage of the early seventeenth century.
