| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of Magdeburg: a fortified gateway with towers flanked by battlemented walls, with additional fortification elements below, all rendered in relief typical of hammered coinage. Above the gateway, a bear passant — the heraldic symbol of Magdeburg — is depicted in the upper portion of the shield. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The encircling legend reads MONETA. NO. CIV. MAGDEBVRG., with the date partially visible at the top of the coin, referencing the year of issue. |
