| Obverse description | Enthroned frontal figure of Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus), depicted as Holy Roman Emperor, wearing an imperial crown and robes, holding an orb surmounted by a cross in his right hand and a sceptre or sword in his left. To the left of the figure rises a stylized representation of the Aachen cathedral or tower. Below the enthroned figure, a crowned imperial shield is visible in the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer margin in uncial characters. |

| Reverse description | A large bold cross pattée occupies the centre of the coin, dividing the field into four quadrants, with a small ornament or pellet appearing in one quarter. The cross is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A two-line Latin legend in uncial script fills the outer margin in two concentric bands: the inner band bears the date in Roman numerals and the outer band carries the mint attribution, together reading as a continuous monetary inscription around the reverse field. |
